Rates for 2026/27

Corporation Tax is 19% up to £50,000 and 25% from £250,000. The 21+ living wage is £12.71 from 1 April 2026.

Between the two limits there is marginal relief at the standard fraction 3/200. The personal allowance for England, Wales and Northern Ireland is £12,570. The additional rate starts at £125,140, not £150,000. Class 4 for 2026/27 is 6% between £12,570 and £50,270, then 2%. Scottish rates are not in the table yet.

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax

From 6 April 2026, sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000 use digital records and quarterly updates.

Qualifying income is mainly self-employment and UK property income. The official page shows how it is worked out. From April 2027 the threshold is £30,000, and from April 2028 it is £20,000. You need digital records and software that submits to HMRC. The annual return does not disappear.

Companies House identity checks

Directors and people with significant control have to verify their identity. New appointments go through the check.

The check is part of the economic-crime and transparency rules. It can go through GOV.UK One Login or an authorised agent. People outside the UK often use an agent or certified documents. The deadline depends on whether you are a new director or already on the register. The official page says which deadline applies to you. Missing it is not a formality.

Selling a property and Capital Gains

The tax is on the gain, not the whole sale price. A main home is often exempt. Another UK property is reported quickly.

If the property was your main home the whole time, private residence relief usually applies. If you rented part of it out, or used part of it for business, the relief may not cover everything. A UK residential sale that is not fully exempt has to be reported and paid to HMRC within 60 days of completion. Allowable costs come off the gain: buying and selling fees, the stamp duty you paid on purchase, and capital improvements. Ordinary repairs are not the same as a capital improvement.

Crypto belongs on the return

Receiving, trading, and exchanging crypto is reported. Deals that produce a gain go into Capital Gains.

HMRC treats crypto as an asset. Selling, swapping one coin for another, and paying with crypto can be a taxable event. A reward or income from activity can be income, not only a gain on sale. Keep an export from the exchange with dates and pound values. We do not hold the wallet and we do not tell you what to buy.
