Guides

How to pay HMRC, and how to download a bank CSV. Where there is an official page, the steps point at it.

Pay Corporation Tax

Payment goes through HMRC's page. Have the period reference and the amount from the calculation ready.

  1. Open the official payment page.
  2. Enter the period reference.
  3. Enter the Corporation Tax amount.
  4. Enter the address and card, then confirm the payment.

If the reference is not clear, call before you pay.

Pay PAYE

PAYE tax and National Insurance are paid from HMRC's page. If you are not sure which amount belongs to the month, call before you pay.

  1. Open the official page.
  2. Follow the steps for the way you are paying.
  3. Enter the address and card, then confirm.

Keep the confirmation with that month's payslips.

Pay VAT

VAT is paid to HMRC for a specific period. For November, December and January, you select January and that year.

  1. Open the official page.
  2. Enter the VAT number.
  3. Select the last month of the period you are paying.
  4. Enter the amount due, the address and the card, then confirm.

Pay Self Assessment

Personal tax is paid with your UTR, the ten digits from HMRC.

  1. Open the official page.
  2. Enter your personal UTR.
  3. Enter the amount, the address and the card, then confirm.

The online return and the payment for the previous year are due on 31 January. If you are unsure of the amount, do not guess.

CSV from Lloyds Business

The export is on the bank's website, not in the mobile app.

  1. Sign in to Lloyds Business Banking on a computer.
  2. Open the account the transactions belong to.
  3. Find Statement options, or the same menu in the account details.
  4. Choose Export transactions (CSV, QIF), or the equivalent label.
  5. Set the start and end dates and download the file.

If the label has moved, use the bank's export for those dates. Do not retype the transactions.

CSV from Barclays

The current site shows the Barclays steps as pictures: sign in to the business account, choose the dates, and export. Menus move, so this page does not invent button names.

  1. Sign in to business banking on a computer.
  2. Open the account.
  3. Choose the period you were asked for.
  4. Download the transactions as a CSV.

If you only see a PDF, look for export or download. Send the CSV, not a photo of the screen.

CSV from Santander

The current site's Santander steps are also sign in, dates, and export. There is no separate written path to copy word for word.

  1. Sign in to the business account on a computer.
  2. Open the account.
  3. Choose the start and end dates.
  4. Download the CSV for that period.

If the bank offers OFX or QIF, CSV is the file we need for the accounts.
